November 8, 2008 – January 31, 2009

Reception for the Artist: November 8, 2008, 7-10pm

- The diverse ways in which a certain cultural emanation is developed by different persons or communities (for example, the constructive utopias in Brazil, Europe and Argentina).
- The process by which a specific formal answer, is emptied from the ideological contents that originated it and used for diverse and even opposite purposes (the influence of Bauhaus in the industrial mass production).
- The transformation experienced by a style when transplanted to another physical and social reality (the Vitruvian model in religious architecture in the Spanish colonies of America).

These enunciations are a few examples of what has always fascinated me, both sensual and intellectually: the impure condition of culture and the visual expressions of that complexity.
In a young country as mine this is an everyday and constitutive condition. Buenos Aires and its architecture are proof of it. I intend to register all this in my work. If I have to synthesize in two words the themes that inspire it these would be sickness and contamination.

alejandra von hartz gallery first opened its doors in 2002, coinciding with the first edition of Art Basel Miami Beach.

At the beginning, the Gallery established itself in a small space, on the second floor of the Buena Vista Building in Miami's Design District, where it would remain for almost four years. In November of 2006, it moved to its present location in the Wynwood Art District of Miami.

alejandra von hartz gallery is a contemporary art gallery exhibiting work by emerging and established artists of growing reputation.

Our goal is to promote international contemporary art and current Latin-American art with a strong emphasis on Geometric Abstraction. The artists range from the pioneers of modern art in the 1950's to current generations.

In this context, we intend to represent the similarities and differences that coexist in the diverse continent that is Latin America and their insertion, nexus, and mutual exchange with globalized contemporary art.

The fact that the Gallery is situated in a city with a confluence of migratory currents, where different cultures are fused together, jointly with the apparition of Art Basel Miami Beach, The New Performing Arts Center (amongst others), and the artistic turmoil they brought and will bring, confers on this mission a new transcendence rendering the same an essential niche.
